⌠ September Blues and September Smiles ⌡
Hey everyone! So school has started well into the first two weeks of classes? Has anyone begun feeling the stress yet? It's starting to kick in for me. As I already mentioned in last month's blog, my classes for the fall semester are: Advanced Mandarin Introduction to Communications Financial Accounting Organizational Behaviour Computer Usage Things are toughening up this year! (Nooooo!) So here's the break down on these courses so far. First of all Advanced Mandarin (of course haha). I feel like I really have to start working harder for this course now because in my textbook, each chapter has about 75 new "vocabulary" that needs to be learned; but in reality, we actually have to learn like 100 new words because there are a lot of words that we never even learned last year. It's basically a jump from elementary level to high school level mandarin. Yikes. I hope I'll get a good mark in this course!!! As for Intro to Communications, it's been pretty easy. We're basically just learning sentence structures and proper grammar for the most part. I have a 600 word summary due on Monday and one reading response due on Wednesday. I think what I'm most worried about in this class is if the big oral presentation will kill me or not. It's worth around 25% of my grade. My midterm is worth 5% and my final is worth only 35%. Everything else is based on my reading responses and slightly bigger assignments and participation. Financial Accounting = I hope I can keep caught up in this course >_< My professor (who in which I will state, is quite good looking hahaha) said that I must do the Chapter readings and textbook assignments before the classes or I won't pass the course...That's a scary thing to know so I'm a little worried for this course. I'm already falling a little bit behind in the readings already! I need to cut back on the two and a half hour workout/badminton. Organizational Behaviour is okay...it's only lectures but I have to stay really attentive since my prof only tests on his lectures and his handouts. Don't even really need the textbook haha I'm glad that I know at least one person in the class so it doesn't get as boring as it already is. It's very similar to Organizational Theory but it's more based on people and the workers themselves rather than on management. Lastly, Computer Usage has been pretty slack. It's pretty basic for the most part although me and conversions don't mix that well sometimes haha. Nothing difficult has appeared yet. As for my prof, he's pretty young but he's a complete dork that's so sarcastic that he reminds me of one of my friends hahaha. I bet you one hundred bucks my prof is also really into anime. Okay, onto social life. Well, not much has changed really. My friend from Toronto is back and she brought her boyfriend with her haha so I have made another friend. I've also met four international students, one student through my friend miranda and one student that's a graduate from UBC. Two of the international students that I recently made friends with are from my good friends Regan and Darren's university, Lan Zhou University. One really short guy and one really tall girl. The really tall girl is taller than me! Don't meet many chinese girls that are taller than me (I'm 170 cm (5 Foot 9)); she's 175 cm. Ah, if only I was around that height haha. I can only be that height when I'm wearing my boots or my heels in which I don't wear too often. The other two international students I met, were through a buddy program where I help international students with settling into the university life, talk to them about the city and help them with small things for about two weeks. Then, it's my our own choice whether to keep in contact with each other or not if we become friends. The friend that I made through my friend Miranda, he's from Korea but he's a Canadian citizen since he studied here in my hometown for high school. He's studying business like me and he's pretty chill. Really tall and pretty built haha I always saw him at the gym last year when I went but I never actually "knew" him. He's in my OB (Organizational Behaviour) class so I sit with him. Thanks for letting me borrow your Financial Accounting textbook! The one student I met that's from UBC, I met because of Badminton club (yay for badminton!). He seems pretty cool hahaha He's pre-mastering in Architecture. Personality wise, he's talkative, got a decent sense of humor and so far, he seems like a very kind person, that really likes his Wu Shu haha. I'm very curious as to why he would choose to come to my hometown for schooling rather than stay in Vancouver at UBC. But, that's his choice right? haha I'm very glad to meet him anyways! I'm glad to meet everyone actually because what they influence on me is who I am or will be in the near future. I already said this before that last year, I'm very thankful for my friends Miranda, Mei, Amy, Regan and Darren for being there for me and always having a great time even when we were cramming for exams. You guys changed me a lot! I'm not always quiet, shy and unable to express myself like how I used to be back in High School. I'm free to be myself with anyone and can kinda approach people on my own too! :) Love you guys forever and always :) I also hope I get to meet more people and get to know my new friends better! So unfortunately, I don't have any photos to post on this month's blog. Nothing special hasn't really happened since school started :( Boo. I'll try to post again this month if anything else fun and exciting happens okay? Time for bed now because I have a morning make up class in about 8 hours! Blogging out! (Okay, I really need help in thinking up of a new not-as cheesy-line to sign off -__-'') |
